Morning Sky

Some bloggers are up early enough to catch these star/planet events. Thanks to Earth and Sky for pointing out these wonderful sights. With all the horrors going on (you know what they are) do not forget to take time out to enjoy the day.

It can't make matters worse.

Old News Is News to Me!

I received this e-mail yesterday, and I was shocked!
Then I was in awww? (text below is Jedited to shorten post)
(Image bastardized by Jed)

America's real heroes don't flaunt what they did; they quietly go about their day-to-day lives, doing what they do best.

WWII Story:

During a dialog on "The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson", Johnny's
guest was Lee Marvin. Johnny said, "Lee, I'll bet a lot of people are
unaware that you were a Marine in the initial landing at Iwo Jima...
and that during the course of that action you earned the Navy
Cross and were severely wounded."
"Yeah, yeah... I got shot square in the bottom and they gave me the Cross for securing a hot spot about halfway up Suribachi. But, Johnny,
at Iwo I served under the bravest man I ever knew...
We both got the cross the same day, but what he did for his
Cross made mine look cheap in comparison. This guy actually
stood up on Red beach and directed his troops to move forward and get
the hell off the beach. Bullets flying by, with mortar rounds landing
everywhere and he stood there as the main target.
Johnny, I'm not lying, Sergeant Keeshan was the bravest man I ever
knew. The Sergeant's name is Bob Keeshan. You and the world know
him as Captain Kangaroo."

Vietnam Story:

Mr. Rogers was a U.S. Navy Seal, combat-proven in Vietnam
with over twenty-five confirmed kills to his name. He wore a long-sleeved sweater on TV, to cover the many tattoos on his forearm and biceps. He was a master in small arms and hand-to-hand combat, able to disarm or kill in a heartbeat.

After the war Mr. Rogers became an ordained Presbyterian minister and
therefore a pacifist. Vowing to never harm another human and also dedicating the rest of his life to trying to help lead children on the right path in life. He hid away the tattoos and his past life and won our hearts with his quiet wit and charm.

Gullible Jed was eating this up, until I did a little Wikipedia and Google search. I found only a half truth of Lee Marvin getting a purple heart and Bob Keeshan did serve in the Marines. I do not find where Mr. Rogers ever held a weapon, except the "Great Sword of The Word" (the Holy Bible).

Why expand on a persons life who already achieved so much good work? Pass some of it down to little fellers like Jed. I mean when you are low, folks embellish how even lower you are, and when your high people embellish how much higher you are.

What th'!!! Talk about making matters worse!

Good News

Good news, if you wait long enough, the reports will come up in your favor.

Researcher Claims Coffee Is High In Antioxidants!
I am old enough to remember when reports said eggs were deadly to humans as well as coffee (I wonder if Starbucks sponsored this latest coffee study).

I look at it this way, if a food product were deadly it would have not lasted more than a few years in the human diet. If folks were eating toxins they would have perished too quickly to have children.

Now, if I could just get a report saying that Camel Lights were known to reverse aging.

Job and the Hurricane

I have been taking time in my spiritual life to explore the poetic books of the bible (Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and the Song of Solomon). I started with the book of Job about six years ago when all I had amassed in the world was gone and out of my hands. I went to this book to try and find some peace for my life (without the use of the Walgreens' pharmacy counter). In my self-pity, I looked for a calm to come from knowing when all is gone there is a God that loves me enough to give me everything I know, even the pain. While in this self-absorbed state, I saw the book as a story a person could study in good times and bad.

I am no Bible scholar, but I do have a few hours of study in the events of my life and my variable perspective. If you want to know about Jed , there is no higher person on earth than me to get that information. I am a dislocated and bitter Baptist. I dislike church after ten years of avid attendance. From my twenty-eighth until my thirty-eighth year, I watched and served in the Church as an assistant Sunday school teacher for 5th graders and on numerous committees. Now I fear that kind of fellowship in my bitterness. It seemes, when I needed them most, I was considered un-clean and worthless to them with my divorce illness. I have to admit that much of this perception of banishment was in the confines of my own emotional brokenness. I do not offer to call that congregation anything but human and complicated, like all relationships on earth.

Solomon had everything to do with the way the five poetic books were arranged, assembled, and written. He gathered the stories and ran a mega theme of timeless wisdom throughout these books. Solomon, who was one of the smartest men who ever lived, is worth a look. If you have not read Job in a long time, I recommend it highly. Some folks say a Psalm a day will enrich your life beyond measure. I hope to someday heed the Psalm a day rule.

The poetic books can be loosely outlined as:

Job-"The how to suffer and not loose faith book."
Psalms-"The how to pray like you mean it book."
Proverbs-"The how to act like you love God book."
Ecclesiastes-"The way to enjoy and take your time in life book."
Song of Solomon-"The how to love your love book."

Solomon was the 4th son of David born to Bathsheba. Even his birth is a testament to good coming from a bad start (if you remember how David and Bathsheba hooked up). He was to the Old Testament what Paul (Saul of Tarsus) was to the New Testament. Solomon's viewpoint of simply chasing the wind when you get too raw about seeing hurricanes tear up your cities, warmongers killing the masses, and even our own setbacks in life, are purposeful for reasons we are not equipped to fathom. Just sit tight and try and not make matters worse, unless you need to in your season.

Pets, got to blog 'em

Sooner or later you have to web log your pets!

This is "Sam I Am"
Schnauzer- Yorkshire mix
"Schnorkie Breed"

The smartest dog
I have ever known,
with a built in cat

detector (shiny dark
bulb at front)

In March Sam kept sniffing at this one spot at the foundation of our house, and
making a strange sound. We also were seeing this cat at random times in our yard. So I started thinking that we might have an infestation of kittens.

When I crawled under the house ten little eyes were glowing in the beam of my flashlight. I thought at first about ignoring the little monsters. The momma will take care of them, and perhaps she would move them out, I thought. Then I considered the fact that the only life for a feral cat in the city was no life at all. My misson was clear. I had to harvest and tame them if they were to have any chance of a life.

I fed them a half&half, unsalted butter mixture with a drinking straw. We washed the fleas off with a diluted mixture of Sam's shampoo. After a nights rest I started them on the cow juice mix and albacore tuna water. In a couple of days they were eating the tuna from a dish.

Now, I am not a good cat owner by some standards and a tenderheart by others. I
think a cat is a free agent in this world and I am willing to help them out. For the most part I let nature do what nature do. If kitty is not smart enough to stay alive in it's dealing with the devil's world, that is between gato and God. I let them in the house if they want, and out if they want. We kept them in Sam's porta-pet at night for fear of hunting foul and bigger cats until they were about three months old.

Birthday Girl

Brothers and sisters have I none,
so this lucky man is my late fathers son.
The beautiful woman is his bride,
who today has made another solar stride.

They wear white gold rings with Hebrew text:

from Solomon's Song of Songs Chapter 2, Verse 16
"I am my Beloved's and my Beloved's is mine;"

My Friend Joe

Come and listen to a story about a man named Joe. He and I were cohorts in our old job installing flag poles and signs.

I did this little Demo CD cover for his four song demo. from a photo I shot on one of our worksites. He did not want a cover picture of him with a shovel on his guitar demo, but I sold him on the fact that everyone with one of these demos is a face holding a dreadnought or a strat. I hope the image helps him get noticed in a stack of demo discs. In fact I wanted to use the full shot I posterized to accent the colors in a flash sort of way. We agreed on the one above.

He and I would dig in the direct sunlight of a sweltering Tennessee summer day and love every moment of it. He did many impressions of actors and folks we both knew as we slaved. He has an impeccable ear for voices (both human and instruments). I remember one from "The Outlaw Josey Wales" the old indian sidekick: "All I have is this piece of rock candy, but it is not for eatin' its just for looking through". It still cracks me up to think of Joe and I with blood blisters and bee stings, giggling in delirium. Joe, hand me the DeWalt... "All I have is this piece of rock candy..."

Joe has a job with Rivr Media doing grip work and hoping to get connected to a spot in their music department. I miss working with this bright soul every day.

Big Brother Fed

Jed is kind of aggravated today about paying a speeding ticket. I was driving my little neon box truck back from Heath Springs, South Carolina a couple-three months ago through the beautiful Maggie Valley. I was cruising a normal 65 mph down hill, the weather was perfect and the semi-trucks were blowing me about. I was radar zapped in the strech they have you slow down to 55 for no obvious reason (except to trap folks for money).

I am not disturbed so much about the money (a lie), since I was wrong to coast a little too fast. The thing that gripes me is the difficulty in making payment! It has to be a money order or cashiers check only. Courthouses are in the business to take money. Why do they not accept common forms of payment like debit cards over the phone, or regular checks? If it is a matter of the bank taking a percent or two, surcharge the customer/criminal. If it is part of the punishment for lawbreakers…charge them more money to cover it. Is it a head game for them to have you run the extra few miles to get a money order?

This annoyance brings me to how our local governments are starting to act like their big brother Fed. We were facing a wheel tax in our county last year and they allowed us to vote on it. It was all twisted in with two or three other issues that no matter how you cast, you got the mucky end of the stick. We were even sent cards before the big day stating: If you do not want the wheel tax vote YES on the wheel tax issue. I thought how ridiculous! I will just read the slip once inside the box…hell fire! There ain’t no way to really understand the jargon/legal-ease that thing was printed in, without a flow chart or diagram.

I think I voted to donate blood four times a year, mow my neighbor’s grass and pay an extra $60.00 for my tag. I was chin-up and fat breasted because I was acting locally in my best interest.

I made matters worse that day in the booth. Nevermind the man behind the curtain.

Generation Gap

I know I must be getting old because popular culture is starting to seem so crude and lacking imagination. I site this song as one of the pieces of work.

The Whisper Song...and it gets radio play 'cause they whisper.

Hey how you doin lil mama? lemme whisper in your ear
Tell you sumthing that you might like to hear
You got a sexy *ss body and your *ss look soft
Mind if I touch it? and see if its soft
Naw I'm jus playin' unless you say I can
And im known to be a real nasty man
And they say a closed mouth dont get fed
So I don't mind asking for head
You heard what I said,
we need to make our way to the bed
And you can start usin' yo head
You like to f*ck, have your legs open all in da butt.....

It gets much more crude from here (Google it for yourself).

I just think creative stuff should insinuate life and allude to acts. I tell my little girls that it takes very little effort to be common like this, aim higher (that should not be too hard with this example set).

Sylvia Plath did this one and it is hot. A metric ton more creative in contrast.

There is a panther stalks me down: One day I'll have my death of him;
His greed has set the woods aflame, He prowls more lordly than the sun.
Most soft, most suavely glides that step, Advancing always at my back;
From gaunt hemlock, rooks croak havoc: The hunt is on, and sprung the trap.
Flayed by thorns I trek the rocks, Haggard through the hot white noon.
Along red network of his veins What fires run, what craving wakes?

Insatiate, he ransacks the land Condemned by our ancestral fault,
Crying: blood, let blood be spilt; Meat must glut his mouth's raw wound.
Keen the rending teeth and sweet The singeing fury of his fur;
His kisses parch, each paw's a briar, Doom consummates that appetite.
In the wake of this fierce cat, Kindled like torches for his joy,
Charred and ravened women lie, Become his starving body's bait.

Now hills hatch menace, spawning shade; Midnight cloaks the sultry grove;
The black marauder, hauled by love On fluent haunches, keeps my speed.
Behind snarled thickets of my eyes Lurks the lithe one; in dreams' ambush
Bright those claws that mar the flesh And hungry, hungry, those taut thighs.
His ardor snares me, lights the trees, And I run flaring in my skin;
What lull, what cool can lap me in When burns and brands that yellow gaze?

I hurl my heart to halt his pace, To quench his thirst I squander blood;
He eats, and still his need seeks food, Compels a total sacrifice.
His voice waylays me, spells a trance, The gutted forest falls to ash;
Appalled by secret want, I rush From such assault of radiance.
Entering the tower of my fears, I shut my doors on that dark guilt,
I bolt the door, each door I bolt. Blood quickens, gonging in my ears:

The panther's tread is on the stairs, Coming up and up the stairs.

You know me, I am just trying not to make matters worse.

Silver Horse

As I dream, I dream of a silver horse of steel. Neil Young said it best for me:

I'm a dreamin' man, yes, that's my problem
I can't tell when I'm not being real.
In the meadow dusk I park my Aerostar
With a loaded gun and sweet dreams of you.
I'll always be a dreamin' man
I don't have to understand
I know it's alright.
I see your curves and I feel your vibrations
You dressed in black and white, you lost in the mall
I watch you disappear past Club Med Vacations
Another sleepless night, a sun that won't fall.
I'll always be a dreamin' man
I don't have to understand
I know it's alright.
Now the night is gone, a new day is dawning
And our homeless dreams go back to the street
Another time or place, another civilization
Would really make this life feel so complete.
Dreamin' man He's got a problem
Dreamin' man
Dreamin' man He's got a problem
Dreamin' man.

I have drawn a few ideas on the 200X Bronco for fun. The top photo is the Bronco I drive daily. Ford has a concept for possible production built last year, but no news on it yet. I don't like the look...the world has enough Hummers. I sent an e-mail to TruckSpy to see if he has the scoop. Thanks Reenie for the code lead!

I love to dream of fancy toys and not make matters worse!

Troubleshoot Jed's gutter

When I drive (see Drive Satan drive) twelve or more hours (alone) I like to listen to talk radio, news, Christian, NPR, and political. When I want to stay awake I listen to Rush Limbaugh as I have found he gets my heart rate up and sleep is impossible.

I always thought Rush was a staunch Conservative. I fear I am wrong. I fear I am right too.

I think I should hear Rush's viewpoints since some of my more conservative friends are always talking of his wonderful mind. After a few weeks of hearing Mr. Limbaugh, I have decided he is a satirical-fascist. I hear an errant Christian tone used for controlling the masses. His radio persona is much too selfish and
condescending to have ever known the love of Jesus. I want to clarify that I have no right to judge any soul for any reason, and I regret feeling this way about him. His statements should be regarded as satire/humor, but I think too many are seeing his view as a serious political teaching...and that worries me. He does have a keen mind though.

I always fancy myself a Centrist, sinking to the Libertarian, while leaning a little left, with the Bible over my heart (as if it matters for Jed who is not educated enough to have any politics, income or voting power).

Which brings me to this: I want to ask you readers about your income. People who hold great understanding of our country and it's accounting are saying the times are great for America's money flow. I do not know economics very well, but I know something is wrong. I do not know meteorology all that well either, but I can tell if it is raining or not.

I want to know if you have seen a rise in your pay in the past five years that equals the rise in cost of things like housing, medical, transportation and food. I also beg your views on the possibility of a trickle down from this good economy we are in now.

I am standing directly under the downspout, the weatherman says it is raining cats and dogs...but alas I am dry. Is Jed's gutter clogged?

Hearth and Hope

I hope we can keep it. It is about 1500 square feet built in '41 with a nice yard. I am overwhelmed at the likely loss in money and home. I took these in early spring/late winter.
The only thing that does not change for me is change itself. I describe a good human as one that is not afraid to ask for what he needs, and willing to accept what he can get. I was born cold and naked in a pool of blood and stagnate urine. It has been getting better than that day all my life. Any loss I feel I may suffer is offset by the fact that I could have not been offered a life at all. Any toil I feel was not my effort without the gift of life and ability to toil. Life is really all to the plus side if you view it from here.
I am feeling low, counting my blessings tho. Y'all think and pray good stuff for Jed as always. In the meantime I will try and not make matters worse.

That's not love, it's gun powder

Civil unrest is a crisis even more pressing than terrorism in this observer's mind. That is the kind of thing that is certain to hit your neighborhood.

I understand the "Impeachment Tour" has been taking some gunfire. That is not LOVE or patriotism that is pure domestic terrorism.

"-the man fired his gun on his own property, so long as the bullets remained on his property as well."

If this was Jed shooting, I would be arranging bail money right now in Texas.

Thanks to SARALOVERINGPHOTOGRAPHY and TheBagBlog on the photo.

UPDATE ON THE MENISCUS: I asked for good thoughts and prayer on my daughter's knee injury. She has informed me her doc. has decided the healing is consistant with a good bone bruse on the tibia right below the meniscus tissue. This means she will not have to undergo a costly MRI and possible surgery. I know your prayers were key, and I humbly thank you...now that is LOVE!

Driving and crying

I have been taking road trips daily to earn some much needed cash as I outlined on Mountian Girls blog. Today I heard this and it broke my heart as before. Perhaps I am too sensitive as I drive to Cincinnatti and back through the Kentucky hills.

Alex Chadwick of NPR talks to John Dimsdale of Marketplace about the widening U.S. trade deficit. The Department of Commerce reports the deficit in international trade of goods and services grew 6.1 percent to $106.8 billion -- and a lot of that growth can be blamed on rising oil prices. It is about 183 seconds long just click on the listen button and listen between the lines.I hope this news don't make matters worse.

Jed, missing his two, two wheels

I have been asking my blog friend Red Molly to add photos of her sons Vespa project to her post. These pictures feed my eyes (Jed's porn, not in a touch myself sort of way). Thanks Blue Page Special!

I have owned two motorcycles in the past seven years and lost two motorcycles in the same time. I am not whimpering, just missing that feeling. I love to look at the wonderful form and functional parts of bikes. When I have had the good fortune to own Harleys, I would
just pull them out in the sunshine and circle them taking in every detail with my eyes. The gas mileage is sweet too! I can't find many digital photos of my bikes. I have found two for this post, and my current bike, which has never used one gallon of gas...enjoy.

I would like to give out this link to Confederate Motorcycles (these bikes are the epitome of v-twin techinical excellence)

I also ride a unicycle (not like this!), wheels are in my blood.

Drama of Jed and Meniscus

I have a wonderful thirteen year old daughter. She is the first person I witnessed born, and I cut her cord. I spent many hours a day with her until she was eight years old. We were torn apart by divorce (in 2000) and now I see her about two days a month. I call her my first born, but that is not exactly right. I have an older son, but I first met him when he was fifteen. His mother was divorcing the man she had thought was his father (after sixteen years together...14 married). Her soon to be x wanted to have a D.N.A. test to hopefully avoid some child support if any of the kids they shared were not his. He was right, his cheating sweety had been busy while they were first shacking up. Well I found myself in a D.N.A. line up with three other men, and I was the winner of a handsom full grown boy...payments and all. My wife of ten years and two adorable daughters, then 8 and 5 decided she would run like a rat from a sinking ship and get her child support claim in first (I did not want any D.N.A. test), so she would get her percentage off the top half and not the bottom. I guess I made a dreadful mistake of thinking my life was worth more than money to some people.

Well my son has turned out just fine after the shock of the dad switch. He has told me that he likes me better than the man he thought was his dad and has not spoke with him since. My daughters seem to be doing well too, perhaps a little bitter from divorce and we miss each other. Now I know my life is worth more than gold.

Now...to the point of this post. My daughter (see first sentence) is a wonderful
young woman who enjoys tennis and playing in the school band. She has a mind as sharp as they come with a wisdom of life that a divorced child knows. She and her sister were at camp last week playing a relay type game and she fell sharply on her right knee. The knee has lateral meniscus damage of some kind. Her mind now is on the fact her tennis season may be off. As her father my mind is on her longer term problems of a long life with knee pain. We will know more after the M.R.I. scan.

Y'all think good thoughts for her, if you will. As for me, I am just trying not to make matters worse.

Live Strong (in China)

My stepdaughter ordered a LIVESTRONG wrist band near a year ago. It came today in the mail and I was excited and then heartbroken.

The above animation was what I cooked up to cope and tell my story.

I know it was a free item and costs have to be cut as best as possible, but dang. To have that little "Made in China" stamp inside, discounted the message to me. It said America's Hero of mind over matter did not matter enough to use Americans to produce these icons.

The following paragraph contains a small scale story that eludes to the big picture (and it is true).

Jed worked for a man who sold flags and flagpoles, and a few days after 9-11 the U.S. flags were flying off the shelf at a premium price. With this opportunity in his sight, Jed's boss ordered thousands of low quality American flags from China. He had Jed and his peers cut the "China" tags out and told them they would get a good bonus to keep this quiet. Jed and his cohorts were skeptical of seeing that bonus, and sickened at the thought of what they were doing. Well Christmas time came with the same $25.00 Wal-Mart* Gift card (*another grift of American effort) and the boss built a new building on his priviate ranch by the river.

It is the smallest of things that make the largest impact on Jed.

Birthday Boy

Yep it is my birthday. Born in the year of the dragon under the Leo stars. I should be a powerful leader and agressive go-getter.

What the hell happened? Did someone de-claw me and snuff out the fire in my belly when I was too young to remember? I have never felt less powerless than I do today. That is not going to make me forget my blessings, no sir, not for one second.

I am having many laughs and love in my life. Four kids and a grandson to get my blood and spirit into the future. Well one of my kids is not my blood, but she gets to spend more time around me than my natural kids. I count her because she will tell the tales of my style to the others in due time and I love her. A beautiful sexy wife ten years to my junior who seems to like me as well as love me. It is so nice to have a friend inside a smart and sexy lover.
You may see me under this sign with a smile sometime
Yep, I am one blessed human.

41 Orbits Tomorrow

Always proof of a crazy world... I made it 41 solar orbits! It is a good day to be alive. I am the best thing that ever happened for me.

I love this little song from Monty Python the "Galaxy Song"

Just remember that you're standing on a planet that's evolving
And revolving at nine hundred miles an hour,
That's orbiting at nineteen miles a second, so it's reckoned,
A sun that is the source of all our power.
The sun and you and me and all the stars that we can see
Are moving at a million miles a day
In an outer spiral arm, at forty thousand miles an hour,
Of the galaxy we call the 'Milky Way'.
Our galaxy itself contains a hundred billion stars.
It's a hundred thousand light years side to side.
It bulges in the middle, sixteen thousand light years thick,
But out by us, it's just three thousand light years wide.
We're thirty thousand light years from galactic central point.
We go 'round every two hundred million years,
And our galaxy is only one of millions of billions
In this amazing and expanding universe.
The universe itself keeps on expanding and expanding
In all of the directions it can whizz
As fast as it can go, at the speed of light, you know,
Twelve million miles a minute, and that's the fastest speed there is.
So remember, when you're feeling very small and insecure,
How amazingly unlikely is your birth,
And pray that there's intelligent life somewhere up in space,
'Cause there's bugger all down here on Earth.
